/ About
A voice from the south
Kairo grew up between Khayelitsha and Observatory, learning piano on a secondhand Casio and cutting their first tracks on a cracked copy of FL Studio. By seventeen, they were playing basement shows in Cape Town. By twenty, they had released their first EP, "Silhouette", to a quietly devoted audience on SA college radio.
The breakthrough came in 2023 with an invite to SXSW, followed by a Boiler Room session that crossed ten million streams in a month. "Cape Ghosts" (2024) confirmed the hype — a dream-pop record haunted by field recordings from the southern peninsula, now certified Gold in South Africa.
The new album "Afterhours" arrives in 2026. Written during a six-month residency in Lisbon and finished back home in Woodstock, it is Kairo’s most ambitious work yet — eleven tracks of late-night reverie, a full live band, and a visual show that has already sold out its opening run.

“Kairo writes like someone who has watched the sun rise over Table Mountain a thousand times and still finds it heartbreaking. "Afterhours" is a quietly thrilling record.”
Sonic Review
Thandi Mokoena
“The live show is the thing. Five players, a wall of projections, and a voice that cuts through it all. Kairo is building something most South African acts only dream about.”
Beat Bureau
James Pretorius
“A producer, a songwriter, and a fearless curator of sound. "Halo Drift" is one of those singles that makes the rest of the year feel a little brighter.”
